Mrs Kim’s Grill Richmond

5:30pm - 10:00pm
258 Swan Street Richmond 3121

Who is Mrs Kim? She’s the woman who brought her Seoul recipes and baby daughter Joanne Chang to Australia in the ‘80s. That baby daughter went on to open three restaurants, paying homage to her mother and the family’s migrant past.

Inside Richmond’s two-storey, heritage-listed building, things can get a little smoky. There’s an average of one grill for every three seats, and Chang opted to forego the exhausts traditionally seen in Korean barbeque restaurants. It’s a brave decision that’s paid off aesthetically in the sleek and open 100-seat dining room.

Before they hit your grill, all meats are marinated according to Mrs Kim’s traditional MSG-free recipes for a minimum of 12 hours. They come with a range of complimentary sides, the best of which is unlimited kimchi.

Choose from 11 different flavoured meats to be cooked at your table. They’re designed for family-style sharing; and groups can select their own to mix and match with sides. The easy way out is to select one of the generous sets for two: Moo, Oink, Baa, Cluck Cluck or the ultimate Mrs Kim’s Selection.

The mild-flavoured Korean beers Height and Cass are available, to let the barbeque flavours do the talking. If you’re after something with more kick, try the Korean rice wine, soju, or reach for the wine list selected by The Price Wine Store.
