With the lighting of a fire, a special overnight vigil at Barangaroo Reserve will be held on January 25 as part of Sydney Festival. The Vigil will feature performances and stories of country by current and future Indigenous community elders. Guests are invited to reflect on the significance of the day before the First Fleet arrived, and the impacts of colonisation.
Storytelling by a fire is a ritual many of us have experienced, but for Indigenous Australians it holds a special significance as a cultural practice through which law, wisdom and history is passed down to the younger generation. Guests will also be able to join in with a song in an Indigenous Sydney language. Download the lyrics here.
Starts at dusk.
