The owners of Soda Factory like a discreet entrance. The Surry Hills bar is fronted by a faux hot dog restaurant – pull on the handle of the Coke vending machine and you’re inside.

With El Santo’s, an about-to-pop-up pop-up bar in Newtown, The Experience Group (it also owns Rosie Campbell’s) has promised there’ll be a speakeasy-style entrance when it opens.

The how-to-enter details are as enigmatic as the venue’s Mexican-wrestler namesake, but we’ve been told to look out for the distinctive El Santo mask hanging on King Street when it opens in early December. (Tip: it’s at the former site of Kingston Public Bar).

The proprietors promise tacos, tequila, Margaritas and dive-bar-meets-wrestling-club-styled interiors. The owners have given themselves 40 days to get the bar up and running (they got the keys in late October), after that El Santo’s will be kicking around for six months.

El Santo’s is slated to open on Thursday December 6.
