Oldtown in Newtown is run by Italian-born mother and daughter Ella Casadei and Elisa Cecchetto. Wandering in, you’re greeted with a warmth and cosiness that can only come from a passion for good food and a love of genuine hospitality. The small interior features an orange, yellow and green colour scheme and small tables covered in newsprint lithographs from ancient Rome. A focal point is the large wooden easel filled with cookbooks, teapots, plants and homemade preserves.

Oldtown has made a name for itself by serving up homely, authentic Italian fare with a less-is-more approach. The use of simple, local and seasonal ingredients is a cornerstone of the restaurant, though in an elegant, understated way. Craft beer and wines are also sourced locally.

Try black ink gnocchi or a ragu of either duck or wagyu with hand rolled pasta. You’ll also find salads and antipasti dishes alongside a large range of bruschetta, like the nero rosso with olive tapenade, sundried tomato paste and mozzarella pearls.
